With its smooth ride quality and an available hybrid powertrain that is able to get the vehicle 40 mpg, the Escape is garnering a lot of attention. Inside, its controls are all easy to use and the cabin offers spacious seating. There is an abundance of tech and safety features available, as well, so you get a lot of value from this SUV. Let's take a look at what else the Escape has in store when you visit us here at Middlekauff Ford for your test-drive.

Trim Levels

The new Ford Escape comes in four different trim levels: the base S, SE, SEL and the line-topping Titanium. The base S trim starts off with a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that generates 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and lets you choose between front- or all-wheel drive. The SE and SEL let you opt for a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain (with a total horsepower of 200) that is paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT); it does come standard on the Titanium. The SEL and Titanium do let you opt for a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is good for 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

The base Escape S comes with onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, 17-inch wheels and a height-adjustable driver's seat.

The SE adds chrome exterior trim, an 8-inch touchscreen display and smartphone app integration. You can also get a few different packages: the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ package, Convenience package, Cold Weather package and SE Sport Appearance package.

The SEL comes with standard fog lights and roof rails. It also has some optional packages: Technology, Tow, SEL Stealth all-wheel drive and Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+.

Meanwhile, the Titanium gives you ambient interior lighting, front parking sensors and the optional Titanium Elite package.

Performance

The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is able to sprint to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, which is quicker than a lot of its competitors. This engine has no problem getting up to speed on the highway or cruising around congested city streets. This engine is rated for 26 mpg, which is above average for an upgraded engine in an SUV of this size. What's more, the hybrid variant is able to get about 40 mpg and also offers a good thrust of power to get it off the line.

Design

The Escape is designed for comfort, sure, but it also has some fine touches. The SE's chrome exterior trim looks sleek, and the Convenience package upgrades the headlights while also adding a power liftgate for more ease-of-access. Also, the SE Sport Appearance package tweaks the SE's design to give it 19-inch black-painted wheels and chic black exterior styling elements. The SEL trim level upgrades the interior to simulated leather upholstery, and the Titanium Elite package adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Technology

Technology is plentiful in the Escape. While the S comes with a six-speaker sound system, the Titanium Elite package swaps that out in favor of a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system. You can easily switch between apps on the infotainment system, thanks to its intuitive and straightforward menus. You will also be able to find plenty of USB ports in both rows of seats.

Safety Features

To help you safely navigate the Buhl, ID area, Ford equips the Escape with a slew of standard driver aids. Every Escape comes outfitted with forward collision mitigation, a blind-spot monitor and lane departure mitigation. Upgrading to the SE with the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ package adds adaptive cruise control, a lane keeping system, evasive steering assist and integrated navigation. The Titanium tacks on front parking sensors.
